AUSTRIA: MORE COUPLES WITHOUT CHILDREN
Article Abstract:
Statistik Austria predicts that by year 2030 the share of families without children in Austria will rise to 41.3% from 33.5% in year 2000. Families with children will remain the most common type of families, but their share will fall. The number of children in Austria is forecast to fall from 2.3mn in 2000 to 2.1mn in 2030. Then just under three quarters of children will be living with two adults, while the rest will be in single-parent families.

AUSTRIA: OPTIMISTIC FORECAST BY NATIONAL BANK
Article Abstract:
The Austrian national bank expects the Austrian economy to grow by 3.4% in real terms in 2000. The economic research institutes Wifo and IHS have forecast growth rates of 3.1% and 2.8%, respectively. The national bank is pinning hopes on increasing exports and solid private consumption. GDP is expected to grow by another 2.9% in 2001 and by 2.6% in 2002. The unemployment rate should decrease from the current 3.7% to 3.3% by 2002.
