AUSTRIA: LABOUR MARKET TO NEED ELDERLY, WOMEN
Article Abstract:
Both the Austrian labour authority Arbeitsmarktservice (AMS) and Wifo, the Austrian Institute for Economic Forecasting, share the view that the labour market will increasingly have to resort to older generations and women in order to avoid a shortage of labour. AMS predicts that until year 2005 the supply of working population in Austria will stagnate. After that there will be a shortage of job-seekers. By year 2010, the number of Austrians between 25 and 45 years of age will fall by about 400,000 people. Both AMS and Wifo see further employment potential in older generations and women. AMS is to spend about Sch 1bn on promoting the employment of older people in year 2000. The spending includes both training and employment subsidies. About 20,000 people should benefit from the measures. Currently about 66,000 of the 194,000 or so unemployed people in Austria are over 45 years of age. Wifo predicts that in the long term immigration will be needed to cover the demands of the Austrian job market.

Going bananas on the motorway
Article Abstract:
Creating a unified, uncluttered image should greatly boost the profile of Cearns and Brown, the largest independent food distributor in the UK, according to chairman Alastair Stoddart. The company is using the services of design company Wolff Olins to produce a minimalist image which will distinguish it from other food distributors. New developments will include the use of moving pictures on the sides of the company's lorries.
