AUSTRIA: MARKET FOR PRE-FAB HOUSES

Pre-fab buildings accounted for 5,530 of the 18,000 or so detached and semi-detached houses that were built in Austria in 1999. The market share of pre-fab construction grew by 3.5%<-points> to 30.7%. The average price of a pre-fab house is Sch 1.6mn. The Austrian pre-fab house association reports that wood-composite houses and brick are gaining ground at the cost of concrete houses, the share of which has fallen from 9% in 1995 to 2%. Austria's pre-fab house buildings want to offer increasingly terraced and semi-detached houses and also multi-storey houses.
