Hungary: Ambitious plans for road network
Article Abstract:
Hungary's transport minister Janos Fonagy has said that the country will build 1,200 km of express roads by 2007 and another 950 km by 2015. By then all streets in Hungarian towns and cities will have a solid cover, and the motorway ring M0 around Budapest is to be completed. Every town will have a motorway or an express road within 30 minutes' driving distance.

Austria's infrastructure minister Michael Schmid has announced that road construction will be an area where his ministry is to cut investments. Until now the federal government has spent about Sch 8bn annually on the construction of federal roads. The cuts might amount to up to Sch 3bn.
