AUSTRIA: RED CUBE ENTERS MARKET
Article Abstract:
A new telecoms company, Swiss Zug-based Red Cube, has started business in Austria in cooperation with the computer giant IBM. The strategic partners decided to start their first joint project in Austria because of the good telecommunication and Internet infrastructure. The company also recently took over the telephone company Pegasus. Red Cube's business model is completely based on the Internet. The company has the world's largest Internet Protocol-based network and is the largest voice-over-IP carrier. Red Cube combines the IP network with "value-added services". Among other things, Red Cube offers the virtual office communication centre Indepensis. The software manages fixed-line and mobile telephones, fax, and voice and electronic mail messages. The package costs EUR 20 per month.

AUSTRIA: SPECULATIONS AROUND TELEKOM AUSTRIA
Article Abstract:
Speculations about a resignation of Heinz Sundt, head of Telekom Austria (TA), are rising. Some even say that TA's head of marketing, Heinz Brasic would like to take the post of Mr Sundt. Brasic is said to have the support of TA shareholder Telecom Italia. In view of TA's difficult going-public and the recent profit warning, Sundt is regarded as too weak to head TA in this difficult phase. What is more, Telecom Italia is said to be in talks with Deutsche Telekom about a "packet swap". Telecom Italia could get all of Mobilkom, while Deutsche Telekom, which is already active in the mobile segment with max.mobil, could get TA's fixed-line business.
