AUSTRIA: BUNDESFORSTE FORECAST FOR 2000
Article Abstract:
Osterreichische Bundesforste (OBf), the Austrian state-owned forestry company and the biggest land owner in the country, expects a turnover of Sch 1.7bn in year 2000, down from just under Sch 2bn. According to Die Presse, profit on ordinary activities in 1999 is estimated at more than Sch 300mn, up from Sch 219mn in 1998. Der Standard, on the other hand, reports that in year 2000 the Bundesforste will not reach the planned profit on ordinary activities of Sch 300mn but will still generate its highest profit ever. Wood prices are forecast to recover in autumn 2000. Due to damage caused by the storms at the end of 1999, the Bundesforste will cut no more than about 1.4mn solid metres of timber rather than 1.7mn cu.m in year 2000.
