Actioning housing change
Article Abstract:
Plans to improve run-down 1960s inner city housing estates were originally rejected by the council tenants who lived in the flats, on the premise the newly designed apartments would be given over to a private landlord. A ruling allowing tenants to sign back the lease of their flats to the council allowed the Housing Action Trust schemes to go ahead, redeveloping blocks of flats and building new, affordable housing in keeping with the areas.

allies and Morrison scheme to replace 'glass wave'?
Article Abstract:
Chairman-elect at the South Bank, Elliott Bernerd, has indicated that the South bank may look at a phased design for its centre, but that the wave design by Lord Rogers, does not lend itself to a phased development. Allies and Morrison came second to Rogers in a competition in 1994, and has said it would be prepared to redesign the centre, although it fully supports the Rogers design.
