Activity holidays in the UK
Article Abstract:
The market for activity holidays in the United Kingdom grew 35% by value to about 2.58 billion pounds sterling in 1995 from 1990, with activity holidays accounting for 22% of the total number of holidays taken in the United Kingdom. Swimming and walking were the top activity holidays in 1994, with sailing and riding decreasing in popularity due to safety and cost concerns. The activity holiday market could grow, with consumers still willing to spend money on holidays despite the comparatively weak economic climate. The market is examined.

Short breaks abroad
Article Abstract:
The growth in the short breaks market is sporadic and the British are expected to take 3.1 million such holidays abroad in 1997, according to a report. The market is mainly influenced by the economy, exchange rates and certain one-off factors, such as the opening of the Channel Tunnel. Paris is the most popular city for short breaks. The report covers holiday expenditures, modes of transport, and considers several different holiday operators, such as Thomson Cities, and British Airways Holidays.
