Beijing unveils euro plans: guidelines are aimed at managing exposure
Article Abstract:
China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange has issued guidelines to minimize exposure to the euro. Banks that will be trading the euro, for instance, are required to maintain buy and sell rates within 0.5% of each other. Institutions will be allowed to use either the euro or the original European currencies while interest rates for four European currencies linked to the euro have been unified by the country's largest foreign exchange bank. Major euro-denominated bonds will also be offered in 1999.
