Agrofert controls most of the Czech fertilizer market
Article Abstract:
Agrofert Holding (AH) (Prague, Czech Republic), holding chemical and agricultural company, now controls the decisive part of the Czech fertilizer market. It has occupied this position due to the acquisition of Lovochemie (Lovosice, Czech Republic), the largest fertilizer producer in the Czech Republic. AH's pesticide suppliers are mainly Synthesia (Pardubice, Czech Republic), Monsanto (US) and Bayer (Germany). Chemical production and trade in chemicals had the biggest share in AH's 2000 pre-tax profit, which amounted to CEK 2.8 bil according to preliminary results. The company made the big profit despite the fact that the consumption of industrial fertilizers in Czech agriculture had dropped fourfold from 1999 to 2000.
