Agusta & Bell joint venture
Article Abstract:
Agusta reached a new two-way risk sharing joint venture with Bell. Under the deal, both companies can market and produce two rotary-wing aircraft currently under development. The transaction, which calls for each firm to retain a majority share of the respective projects, involves the Agusta A139 medium twin helicopter, which is redesignated the AB139, and the Bell Model 609 civil tiltrotor, now designated as the BA609. Bell will provide assistance in the development and certification of the Agusta A139, while Agusta will invest and participate in the development of the BA609.

Comanche redesign?
Article Abstract:
The weight problem with the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche may be solved with a redesign of the main rotor system and an increase in rotor diameter. Based on flight trials, the US Army has determined that future requirements and a growth in mission weight will result in a shortfall in range and payload in meeting the future 21st Century battlefield needs. The redesign may include other configuration changes. It will also result to the cancellation of current proposals to deliver six pre-production aircraft for Army operation trials in the early part of 2000.
