Airport upgrades match growth
Article Abstract:
Several airports in the US are upgrading their facilities to improve their cargo-handling capability. These upgrades are being made in response to the air cargo boom that emerged in the wake of the gulf war and the creation of global trade blocs. Miami International Airport, for instance, has embarked on a $500 million cargo facility development program and plans to widen its warehouse space by another 2.9 million square feet. Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, on the other hand, has begun constructing a third runway only a month after it opened a new perishables facility.
