The growth of the time-share industry has slowed since its peak in the 1980s but it is still growing faster than the traditional tourist industries. Time-shares allow travelers to buy a certain week at a certain resort. Exchange companies allow vacationers to trade time shares with one another.

The amount spent by UK consumers on activity holidays is forecast to increase from 14 million pounds sterling in 1999 to 15.6 million pounds sterling by 2003. Foreign holidays will see the largest percentage rise in growth.
