Profit efficiency for Spanish savings banks
Article Abstract:
The impact of deregulation on the profit efficiency of Spanish savings banks for the period 1986-1991 is investigated. A more realistic market structure is specified, and savings banks are assumed as price-setters in the output market but remain price-takers in the input market. The average difference in forecasted profits between quartiles of the most and least profitable banks was 40%, as shown by efficient measurements derived via the thick frontier approach.

Eco-efficiency, asset recovery and remanufacturing
Article Abstract:
The underlying imperatives fuelling the tend toward eco-efficiency, particularly asset recovery, at the firm level, are considered. It is shown that there is huge potential for adding value, whilst still reducing material inputs, by 'internalizing' the product. Specific cases focusing on internalizing the product through recovery, remanufacturing and materials recycling are reviewed.
