All eyes on China
Article Abstract:
China made many concessions in the reacquisition of Hong Kong that will give Hong Kong a great deal of autonomy, and these obligations will not be easily shirked without affecting China's standing in the global community. Still, it is not known as to whether the Hong Kong way of life can be maintained.

Article Abstract:
China's Communist Party, under the leadership of Jiang Zemin, held its first congress in five years during Sep 1997 and called for a variety of economic modernizations, including privatization. Jiang and the party apparently hope to use capitalist means of achieving 'socialist' goals.
