CPC France has introduced a ready-to-bake liquid cake batter under the Alsa brand. When baked for 50 minutes, this product, named Maman G teau, will produce a 550 gram cake for six people. It is not necessary to add any ingredient by of one wants to add a personal touch, one can put fruit or chocolate into the batter. This product is for women who do not have the time or desire to bake a cake. The product comes in an aluminium pouch and has a 9-month shelf life at room temperature, and the price is FFr 19. This soft pouch makes it easy to pour the batter into a mould and provides the product with greater visibility on the shelves. The product launch will be backed by a major advertising campaign. Alsa will organise a promotional campaign from 7 October to 24 October, during which FFr 25 will be offered for the purchase of Alsa products.

The French dessert mix market represented FFr 373mn, in 1998, up 15.5% from 1997, and up 4.5% in volume. Cake mixes represented FFr 118.7mn, up 68.5%, and up 59.1%, due to new recipes, inspired by the United States, as well as their practical aspect - they are quick and easy to use. Cookies dominate this segment, with a 34.4% volume market share, and a 35% value market share, compared with 7.3% in volume and 11.5% in value for brownies. The manufacturers intend to expand their selection with new products in 1999. Alsa is the leader on the dessert mix market, with a 44.4% market share in 1998, down 0.6% from 1997, followed by Francorusse with a 15.2% market share, down 1.5%; Ancel with a 14.9% market share, down 0.6%; Vahine with an 8.4% market share, up 1.7%, and Francine with a 6.6% market share, up 2.4%.
