BATA GROSS PROFIT UP 78% IN '98
Article Abstract:
Bata India Limited recorded growth of 78 percent in net profit to Rs29.52 crore for the year ended December 1998. Its total income improved by 11 percent to Rs744.76 crore (Rs672.41 crore in 1997). Its gross profit increased by 87 percent to Rs52.36 crore (Rs27.96 crore). Its profit before tax up by 128 percent to Rs40 crore (Rs17.56 crore). Interest costs declined to Rs7.78 crore (Rs14.43 crore). Depreciation increased to Rs12.36 crore (Rs10.4 crore).Bata India paid Rs5.83 crore as excise duty. (rk)(psr)

SIEMENS CONTINUES ON SOFT NOTE BUT NET LOSS DROPS

Siemens Ltd has incurred loss of Rs56 crore for the year ended September 1998 (Rs131.7 crore loss for the year ended September 1997). The drop in loss was mainly due to cut in interest charges from Rs124 crore to Rs46 crore. The company is involved in the business of power transmission and distribution, medical engineering and railway transport systems. (gs)
