Altadis rejects sweetened Imperial Tobacco bid

Spanish tobacco company Altadis S.A. declined a revised $16.07 bil bid offered by Imperial Tobacco Group PLC. The bid represents a 4.4% increase over the initial offer by Imperial, but, according to Altadis officials, does not represent the firm's strategic value. Imperial is not expected to raise the bid further.

U.K.'s Imperial Tobacco gains majority stake in rival Altadis

British firm Imperial Tobacco Group PLC has acquired 95.8% of Altadis S.A. for 12.6 bil euro, and announced a 900 mil euro bid for a 40% stake in Logista S.A., a division of Altadis that distributes retail goods, newspapers, periodicals and cigarettes with sales exceeding 800 mil euro annually.

Altadis S.A. has acquired a majority share of Regie des Tabacs Marocains in a deal valued at 1.29 billion euros. Altadis acquired 80% of Regie in the deal.
