America's education choice
Article Abstract:
There is a need for the US to tackle the problem of deficiencies in its educational system, and both presidential candidates are aware of the problem. The performance of children by the twelfth grade is worse than that of 95% of children elsewhere, and poor quality high school graduates create problems for employers. Al Gore favors increasing spending on education, while George W Bush favors testing and allowing parents with children at failing schools greater choice in allocating funds. Spending levels are not the problem, and competition, choice and accountability should be encouraged.
