Kaucuk returns to black numbers
Article Abstract:
Kaucuk (Kralupy nad Vltavou, Czech Republic), petrochemical firm, saw a gross profit of 170 mil Kc in 1998 compared to a loss of nearly 1 bil Kc in 1997. The firm's net profit amounted to 107.1 mil Kc in 1998. A reason for the loss was the formation of rectifying items for the maintenace of the unprofitable subsidiary K-petrol, petrol station network. The firm's proceeds amounted to 5.624 bil Kc in 1998, 1.094 bil Kc less compared to plan. A reason for the drop of the firm's proceeds was the strong exchange rate of the Czech crown. In 1998 the company sold about 23,000 t of the foaming rubber Koplen, mainly abroad. Kaucuk exports about 70% of its production, mainly to Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and France. The firm has received a syndicated foreign credit of 250 mil DEM for the construction of petrol stations, the installation of new production units Styren III and the reconstruction of the boiler K1. The firm's total bank credits were 3.918 bil Kc in 1998. Kaucuk has 1,945 employees. The number of the firm's employees should decrease to 1,800 by the end of 1999.
