The biology of art
Article Abstract:
Scientific knowledge was consciously used by artists in the Italian Renaissance, but this has become less true in modern times. Evolutionary biologists have, however, come to ask about the function of art, and some argue that it has a purpose and is not accidental. Meanwhile, scientists have studied the way that paintings are perceived by the visual cortex, and have found that representational art involves more stimulation than abstarct paintings, as does art using objects that are naturally colored.
