An integrated evaluation of facility location, capacity acquisition, and technology selection for designing global manufacturing strategies

Article Abstract:

An integrated analysis of three key variables for the effective design of a global manufacturing strategy by multinational enterprises is presented. These are facility location, capacity acquisition and technology selection. The various models in each node of the production-distribution system are explored and a study for the formulation of an integrated model is suggested. The importance of manufacturing performance as a crucial strategic weapon to successfully compete in the global market is also stressed.

Optimal solution of cellular manufacturing system design: Benders' decomposition approach

Article Abstract:

A mathematical model was developed to address problems associated with the design of a cellular manufacturing system (CMS). The model allows the use of Benders' decomposition approach to resolve constraints in CMS design. The first part of the approach involves investigation of the part-machine relations while the second part entails decomposition of the original system into various subsystem.
