Analysts advise investors to steer clear of Asian telecom shares in '95
Article Abstract:
Investment analysts prefer that the investing public not buy Asian telecommunications shares. Since Sep. 1994, these stocks have plunged in value by as much as 30%. The influx of new issues complicates the already difficult situation and promises no respite from the falling trend. Telecommunications firms have resorted to stopgap measures to raise cash such as an initial public offering. Nevertheless, there are still a few companies whose shares should be worth buying. These include PT Indonesian Satellite Corp., Hong Kong Telecommunications Ltd. and Philippine Long Distance Co.

India's VSNL observers favor local shares
Article Abstract:
Videsh Sanchar Nigam's (VSNL) long-awaited global depository receipts offering is expected to pursue in 1997. Analysts have recommended to investors that VSNL's local shares are valued at a cheaper rate considering the company's predicted earnings growth. An agreement between India's Department of Telecommunications and VSNL that would set a net revenue of 10 rupees per minute on all calls is under negotiation. The agreement, which would initially decrease VSNL's net profit by up to 10%, is expected to assure the company's revenue growth.
