Lain, Obrascon-Huarte nail down merger accord

Construcciones Lain SA and Obrascon-Huarte SA have reached an agreement on a $900 million merger. The deal reflects the continuing consolidation taking place in Spain's building industry. The merged entity will have an approximately 793 million euros ($896.4 million) market capitalization. It will also be ranked fifth among publicly traded construction companies in Spain.

BankAmerica cuts executive bonuses; CEO McColl's is slashed by 29%

BankAmerica Corp. lowered the bonsues of the bank's three leading executives. Hugh L. McColl Jr., BankAmerica's chairman and chief executive, had his bonus for 1998 reduced 29% to $2.5 million. The bank, the second-largest in the US, saw its profits fall in the 1998 year. Mr. McColl's $1 million salary was not changed from the salary increase he received in 1997.
