Argentine privatisation's last frontier
Article Abstract:
Argentina's privatisation programme, which began in 1989, was initially designed to boost the credibility of policies being introduced as part of the country's economic reform programme. A considerable number of high profile companies were sold off, and investors who were prepared to take an initial risk have received high returns. There are now few state enterprises left, and the privatisation programme is gradually coming to an end. However, the government is still planning to sell 20% of Banco Hipotecario Nacional and a 25-year concession to the national airport network.
