Asia rises on Australia's priority list
Article Abstract:
Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer is placing Asia on Australia's priority list following doubts about the country's declared commitment to the region. Australia's enhancement of security accords with America and Downer's bungling of an aid program troubled some of Australia's neighbors, including China. Australia's foreign policy is now aimed at restoring and fostering ties with Asia.

Australia's place on the map of Asia
Article Abstract:
Australia should continue to examine its role in Asia and its relationship with the region. The country's heritage may be Western, but its future is in Asia, despite racist comments from some of its politicians. Integration with Asia will necessarily be a long process and delayed by Canberra's indecision in policy-making, but it is inevitable.
