Asia's setback highlights need to intensify, not reduce the region's cooperation with Europe
Article Abstract:
Asia's currency crisis reflects the need to heighten European investment in the region in terms of increased cooperation. According to academics attending a meeting of the Council for Asia-Europe Cooperation, increased cooperation between the two regions is likely to foster the improved flow of ideas, thus, reducing over-dependence on the US. According to a number of Asians, the US and Europe should have provided special lines of credit to nations in Southeast Asia whose currencies were being endangered.

East Asia's economic miracle also sows anxiety
Article Abstract:
The book by David I. Hitchcock entitled 'Factors Affecting East Asian Views of the US' outlines East Asians' views on the adverse social aspects of rapid economic growth. The book is intended for US policymakers and states that East Asia regards the community as more important than the individual and that East Asians are worried about weakening spiritual and family values. The book emphasizes the importance of cooperative efforts in addressing internal threats to the stability of East Asian countries.

Unlike collapse of Berlin Wall, current financial tumult won't release wave of liberal democracy
Article Abstract:
The current financial crisis in many Asian nations won't bring about the liberalization of the region's political systems as pressure is not enough to bring about widespread political instability. Asian countries however, are predicted to improve their systems of accountability and reduce their dependence on crony capitalism rather than reform politics. The political systems of Asian nations have so far worked and financial trouble is not likely to shake these systems.
