Better than a hotel
Article Abstract:
Marriott International Inc. is seeing its new serviced apartments as becoming more profitable than the hotels to which they are linked. Marriott Executive Residences brand director, Ellen Wright, said that the average one-bedroom Marriott apartment in Budapest, Hungary, can charge an estimated 10% more a night than the average corporate rate at the hotel to which it is attached. The residences are also cheaper to operate because of less staff-to-guest ratios. In Hong Kong, the gap is much greater, as serviced apartments are getting strong demand based on surveys. Marriott expects to have 25 residences in place by 2002.

Tourism officials seek to eliminate red tape for the region's visitors
Article Abstract:
A number of travel industry officials in Asia are petitioning their government to implement lax visa requirements to promote tourism throughout the region. Countries such as Burma, Vietnam, India and China implement high fees and stringent visa requirements, particularly at a time when needed foreign exchange afforded by tourists is of great help to the economy. Such strict requirements and travel restrictions discourage tourism into the region.
