Astral leaps into front ranks of radio
Article Abstract:
Astral Media of Montreal, Canada has more than doubled its radio operations on May 16, 2001, acquiring 19 stations throughout Quebec and Atlantic Canada in a $255-million deal with Telemedia. Astral will pay $127 million in cash and the balance with 2.8 million of its class A non- voting shares. The acquisition includes a total of nine stations in Quebec and two French and one English AM station. It gives Astral control of 31 radio stations in Eastern Canada including 23 in Quebec.

Newcap rules Newfoundland radio
Article Abstract:
Canada's CRTC has approved Newcap's C$1.3-million acquisition of Humber Valley Broadcasting, which operates radio stations and retransmitters in communities including Corner Brook, Deer Lake, Stephenville, Goose Bay and Churchill Falls. The deal gives Newcap, a subsidiary of Newfoundland Capital Corp (NCC), control over 15 of Newfoundland's 16 radio stations. NCC is also the owner of 15 weekly newspapers in Newfoundland, through its Robinson-Blackmore subsidiary.

St.Joseph buys Multi-Vision stake
Article Abstract:
St Joseph Corp, the parent of St Joseph Printing, has acquired a majority interest in Multi-Vision Publishing, producer of consumer magazines 'Shift,' 'Elm Street,' and 'Canadian Family.' Multi-Vision also publishes private-label magazines for marketers including Shoppers Drug Mart and Avon. St Joseph did not say how much its stake is worth, but it has the option to have 100% ownership of Multi-Vision
