At BT, $7 billion windfall comes calling
Article Abstract:
British Telecommunications PLC is considering options for using a $7-billion payment it will receive for a sale of its 20% interest in MCI Communications Corp. to WorldCom Inc. BT has a number of choices, including a yet-to-be-decided buyback of shares already approved by company shareholders. BT CEO Sir Peter Bonfield confirmed a portion of the amount will be used for international expansion into markets, particularly in Japan and other nations in Asia. Industry observers say that the company investors could benefit more through intelligent telecommunications investments.
