Austria: Details of fighter tender
Article Abstract:
According to an official of the Austrian defence ministry, the tender for the replacement of the Draken interceptor fighters will comprise 24 new one-seat fighters for Sch 25bn as well as an option for 8 two-seat jets. The new planes are to be delivered between 2005 and 2011. From 2003, when the Draken are gradually taken out of use, Austria will hire 12 aircraft for Sch 200mn annually. This solution is said to be Sch 50mn less expensive per year than maintaining the Draken fleet. Aircraft manufacturers are invited to submit their offers by 18 January 2002. the order is to be placed in June 2002.

Austria: Ministry to announce fighter tenders
Article Abstract:
In the week starting on 24 September 2001 Austria's defence ministry is to ask five potential suppliers to submit their offers for the replacement of Austria's Draken fighters. The costs of the 30 interceptor fighters are estimated between Sch 20bn and Sch 25bn. The aircraft types being considered are the Gripen JAS 39 of Saab, the FA/18-E/F Super Hornet of McDonnell-Douglas, the F-16 Fighting Falcon of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Mirage 2000-5 of Dassault.
