Austria: EUR 100bn for human genome research projects
Article Abstract:
GEN-AU, the Austrian human genome research programme's, request for proposals for human genome research projects was answered by 31 applications. GEN-AU was set up as a public-private-partnership by the ministry of economics. The ministry is going to promote up to five projects of up to five partners each. The council of research and technology development is going to provide EUR 31.4mn until 2004. By 2010 funds of an estimated EUR 100mn are going to flow into Austrian human genome research. The 31 project proposals, that were submitted by universities, industries and start-up-businesses, are now going to be examined by an international scientific advisory committee. The first projects are expected to start in 2001, and the term of the contracts is set for three years. At the end of the contract term the projects will be evaluated.
