Austria: Regulations unfair to Telekom Austria?
Article Abstract:
The director of Telekom Austria, Heinz Sundt, complained on 5 November 2001 that the company had lost as many as 600,000 customers through "unfair" regulation, which prevents it from charging alternative providers a realistic fee for the use of its network. Sundt claimed that Telekom Austria was, in effect, being forced to support subsidiaries of large companies which lead the market in their home countries. The telecoms regulations are to be changed in 2002 and it will be decided by the regulator whether the ex-monopoly will be allowed more competitive freedom.

AUSTRIA: CARRIER PRESELECTION MADE EASIER
Article Abstract:
Austria's Telecom Control Commission has told Telekom Austria (TA) to make it possible for telephone users to access the networks of TA's competitors without having to input the code of the telephone service provider. TA says that the carrier code will be needed for local calls until the end of year 2000. According to the ruling by Telecom Control, TA's competitors have to pay the former monopoly a one-off fee of Sch 94.62 for each client moving from TA to another operator.
