Doing business in India
Article Abstract:
Swiss firms are increasing their interest and scope of operations in India. Their interest is due to India's domestic market of more than 250 million, considered the seventh largest world economy. Its skilled, English-speaking work force offers low labor costs. Swiss firms are ranked 16th among foreign investors in the country and Swiss multinationals such as Nestle and Novartis have operated there for many years. Zurich management consultant Peter Oertli periodically arranges trips for Swiss businessmen who want to orient themselves with the culture and business practices in India.

The re-emergence of trade among the east European and Baltic countries: commercial and other policy issues
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the trade patterns that characterize the east European and Baltic nations and of those countries' trade policies is presented. In eastern Europe, intraregional trade, as a percentage of total trade, fell 15-65% in the 1989-94 period. Over the same period, eastern European trade with the European Union increased 35-140%. Statistics do not conclusively demonstrate that eastern Europe's intraregional trade decline reversed in 1995-96.
