Austria: Staff turnover at Creditanstalt high
Article Abstract:
Staff are leaving the Austrian bank Creditanstalt in large numbers. Some 1,300 employees have been transferred to Bank Austria in two stages, the first in June 2001 and the second in October 2001. The bank is also encouraging men over 55 and women over 50 to take up its attractive early retirement package. It is estimated that 250 employees could leave the bank through the programme, although a spokesman for the bank claims that this figure is exaggerated and the actual number taking early retirement will be about "a dozen". In addition, staff turnover amongst the younger employees is 5% higher than the national banking average at 10%, and many of these are turning to Creditanstalt's competitors Erste Bank, Raiffeisen and Bawag. A spokesman for the bank denied that this level of turnover was anything unusual within the industry.

Austria: Savings deposits fare well
Article Abstract:
In the first nine months of 2001 Austrian banks have increased their volume of business only by 1 % to EUR 568,52. This negative trend of this period was also reflected in a weakening of the boom in foreign currency credits. Credit transactions, too, rose only slightly: in 2001 only by 3.1% compared to 6.2 in 2000. On the other hand savings deposits rose by 2.2 % to EUR 179.7bn. This is much more than last year.
