France: Rich people and their spending habits
Article Abstract:
According to Ipsos, in 2001 there were 3,615,000 French people who were 18 years old and over with gross annual incomes of over EUR 50,000. They represent 8% of the population. Four percent of the French have incomes of between EUR 65,000 and EUR 80,00, and 2% have incomes of over EUR 80,000. These are mainly senior executives or people in the liberal professions and they live especially in the Ile-de-France. They spend over EUR 304.90 every month on food, 25% them spend EUR 72.22 on records, books, and magazines. EUR 228.67 goes for clothing and accessories. They spend EUR 152.45 per month on decorating their homes, and 18% of these people spend EUR 152.45 on going to restaurants and the cinema. Nearly half have cable or satellite television, and a large majority use the Internet and are interested in innovations in the new technologies, computers, and communications. According to Ipsos, 81% of people in this income range own their own home and most have a second home. They also invest in life insurance, stock savings scheme, and savings schemes entitling depositors to cheap mortgages.

FRANCE: HACHETTE LAUNCHES NEW WORLD ATLAS

September 1998 saw the launch of the third edition of Hachette Multimedia's World Atlas on CD-ROM. Retailing in France at FFr 390, the updated 'Atlas Multimedia 99' includes 30,000 pieces of statistical data information and 17,000 information articles. In addition it contains a new road atlas of Europe for drivers.
