Austria: Toll for Brenner pass too high
Article Abstract:
Following a decrease of Sch 30 in the heavy goods vehicle toll for the Brenner pass in Austria, the EU has claimed that it is still too high. Austria maintains that the toll will be reduced by a further Sch 7 as a result of the introduction of the euro and that there is no point in reducing the toll, only to increase it again when the new EU toll guidelines are put in place. Although Austria hopes for the EU's "understanding", the threat of a new suit in the European Court hangs over the country.
