BANGALORE DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY: LOOK NOW, I'M CHANGING
Article Abstract:
Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) was established in 1976. BDA has all along played the role of a retailer of sites at reasonable rates in far-flung extensions of Bangalore. With demand outstripping supply, BDA was unable to provide enough sites resulting in illegal acquisition of land. BDA was bogged down in a whole lot of litigations. Now with a new chairman and the Comprehensive Development Plan, BDA is reorienting itself to the new demands of the city. It is focusing more on city level infrastructure development with projects like outer ring road and intermediate ring road. These two projects will reduce traffic congestion in the city. It has also taken up an urban environment improvement project in four newly developed areas. BDA has also joined hands with the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) for aerial survey and photogrammetric mapping. There are also plans to set up a mapping cell in BDA. (uh)
