BEER PRICES TO DECLINE, CONSUMPTION SET TO RISE
Article Abstract:
The Government of Karnataka has reduced the excise duty on beer from Rs5 to Rs4 per bulk litre which works out to Rs7.8 per case. It has reduced the sales tax on it from 55 percent to 45 percent and the final point sales tax from 10 percent to 5 percent. The price of beer is likely to fall by Rs3 per bottle of lager beer and Rs4 for strong beer. The price of beer is likely to fall by Rs3-4 - from Rs34/35 to Rs30/31. The consumption has decreased from 85 lakh dozens to 60 lakh dozens in the past 3 years. Beer consumption is likely to increase in the coming summer. (rk) (kvr)

CADBURY INDIA HIKES PRICES OF POPULAR BRANDS

Cadbury India Ltd has hiked the prices of its popular brands from January 1999. The price of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate has been increased from Rs15 to Rs16 while the price of Perk has been hiked from Rs12 to Rs13. The price of Crackle has been increased to Rs15 (Rs14 earlier). The price of Bournvita has been hiked from Rs165 to Rs170. (um)(vr)
