Deutsche Bank is keen to expand its U.S. presence

Deutsche Bank AG of Germany intends to increase its US presence in the next five years either through a purchase, a joint venture or by simply building on its present status. The bank's chairman, Rolf Breuer, also announced on Jul. 10, 1998, that the firm has already found a possible investment-banking acquisition target in the US but is still examining its other options. Breuer added that Deutsche Bank is ready to move on the purchase at any time but stressed that the bank's timetable for entering the area of investment banking is five years.

Analysts back share-exchange ratio for merger of three Norwegian banks

Christiania Bank Og Kreditkasse ASA's merger deal with Fokus Bank ASA and Postbanken has won the approval of analysts. The three Norwegian banks are merging under a share-exchange ratio deal that will give Christiania shareholders 61% ownership of the new lender to be created, Fokus stockholders 19% and stockholders the state-owned Postbanken, 20%. The deal will also give Fokus stockholders 2.3836 Christiania shares for each share they own, offering a premium of over 500 million Norwegian kroner or $66.8 million.
