Article Abstract:
The excise duty on computers has been increased to 16 percent from 13 percent in the budget of the Government of India for 1999- 2000. The expenditure on making computers Y2K compliant will be considered as revenue expenditure in 1999-2000. Venture capital investments have been made more attractive. The Government has levied a 10 percent surcharge on corporate tax, which will affect the software companies which earn revenue in India. It has imposed double taxation on the stock option for employees. It has offered 125 percent tax reduction on investment on research and development of software. Computer hardware manufacturers have been offered no incentives. (rk) (kvr)

Specialix is a UK company involved in networking and has been the subject of a management buyout in May 1995. The company has been bought by five managers including Charles Taylor, chief executive and leader of the MBO. The company's branded products were especially attractive to venture capitalists. The Bank of Scotland provided debt worth 7 million pounds sterling for the deal, while 3i supplied 9.2 million pounds sterling worth of equity.

Roccade & Getronics go dutch on Raet
Article Abstract:
Roccade of the Netherlands, a state owned IT specialist, is linking with Getronics, a computer services comcpany, to acquire Raet of the Netherlands, an IT company. Raet inititiated the deal after suffering problems with digesting its earlier acquisitions. A new strategy arranged the company into four business areas.
