BancBoston Capital
Article Abstract:
Venture capital firm BancBoston Capital attributes its success partly to a willingness to spend time and effort on deals which may not immediately seem to have good potential and which other venture capitalists might ignore. The firm also has strong specialist experience in several areas, for example the computing and buses sectors. BancBoston Capital also pursues a strategy of 'buy and build' in which the initial MBO is seen as merely the first phase in a longer-term investment process. The firm is also focusing on continental Europe, where it is using its local contacts and knowledge.

Gresham Trust
Article Abstract:
UK venture capital firm Gresham Trust expects to reap several benefits from its 1995 merger with Threadneedle Asset Management's unquoted investment unit. The merger brings complementary skills together, since Gresham has experience in deal origination while Threadneedle took a passive approach by investing in venture capital funds or being a syndicate member. The merger may also allow Gresham to start syndicating internally on some deals. In the short-term, Gresham wants to consolidate the merger. After this, it may consider setting up a regional office.
