There are many reasons that excess air enters the intestines and causes bloating, including talking while eating, chewing gum, eating the wrong type of fiber, gulping food, and too much carbonated beverage consumption. Bloating can be avoided by taking small bites of food, chewing food well, monitoring fiber intake, and eating food that is not too hot or too cold.
