Bank Handlowy is Poland's largest IPO
Article Abstract:
An Initial Public Offer of 95% of Bank Handlowy of Poland will be issued by the country's Treasury in Jun 1997. Proceeds are likely to reach more than $492.4 million. There will be four tranches of share offers, with the bank to be floated on the Warsaw Stock Exchange on Jun 21 1997. Private investors are being encouraged with incentives to keep their shares for at least a year. Poland will receive nearly $400 million from western governments to restructure the country's banks following the sell-off of Bank Handlowy and Powszechny Bank Kredytowy.

New Treasury takes charge in Poland
Article Abstract:
The privatisation ministry in Poland is to be replaced by a more powerful treasury ministry, following a deal between the SLD and the Polish Peasant Party (PSL). Investors were encourage to conclude several deals before the treasury ministry was established, due to uncertainty about the future of Polish privatisation. The main transaction was Kompania Piwna's purchase of shares in the Tychy Brewery. Another major transaction was the sale of shares in FAEL, an electrical equipment producer to Legrand of France.
