Barcelona!
Article Abstract:
Barcelona, Spain, has received the 1999 Royal Gold Medal for Architecture. One of the men at the centre of the city's regeneration is architect and urban designer Oriol Bohigas. Bohigas worked with Barcelona's city mayor in the post-Franco period to bring new life to a city which had been neglected. They started from the local level, introducing projects which would attract notice and raise morale. Bohigas has written widely on architecture, and a commitment to education and authorship is an important facet of his architectural partnership MBM.
