Based in London, global in spirit: HOK's London office is celebrating its tenth anniversary
Article Abstract:
HOK, is a major global architectural practice, founded in St Louis in 1955. The London office was set up 10 years ago, and has expanded organically with the purchase of Cecil Denny Highton in 1995. Senior staff in London inlcude Ralph Courtenay, Larry Malcic and John Denny. The practice has focus groups, specialising in different building types, such as sports facilities, retail, aviation, leisure and healthcare. It has been responsible for sports stadia such as the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

Article Abstract:
YRM Architects, Planners and Designers has seen considerable success following its management buy-out by Jonathan Gray, Gordon Ripley, Peter Stocker and John Clemow after the parent company collapsed in 1997. It managed to retain the loyalty of existing clients, and has also attracted new ones. The firm believes that it now has particular skills in hospitals, airports, specialist commercial work and education. Commissions have included Bristol Airport and the National University of Cyprus.

Article Abstract:
Gollins Melvin and Ward (GMW) adopted the use of curtainwall in the construction of two office buildings in New Cavendish Street in the early 1950s. It developed the technique in the tower and podium building, Burmah Castrol House in Westminster, in 1959. Commercial office design remains the mainstay of the practice's work, although there is a marked increased in mixed use, including offices, retail space, and apartments.
