Battle to reclaim a brand
Article Abstract:
The protection offered by Indonesia to the foreign investors is evaluated in light of the stealing of the trademark of Imperial Tobacco company. Sumatra Tobacco Trading is the accused company which claims the Indonesian rights to almost 201 companies. The commercial courts did not cancel the rights of Sumatra Tobacco as they do not find the extensive usage of the rights as required by the law and the government agencies are too corrupt to help. Imperial is now appealing to the Supreme Court.
