Beer flows over the frontier
Article Abstract:
Prazske pivovary (PP) (Prague, Czech Republic), brewing firm, goes on expanding abroad in 1998. PP exported 410,000 hl of beer in 1997 compared to 290,000 hl in 1996 and 181,000 hl in 1995. One of the firm's most important markets is Germany. PP exports beer to the market through the subsidiary Staropramen Prager Bier (Germany). PP also exports its beer to Slovakia. The firm has to face low quotas on the imports of Czech beer to the Slovak market. PP solves the problem by licensed production in Slovakia. The licensed production of the company's beer brand Mestan was started at the brewery Stein (Bratislava, Slovakia) in May 1998. PP's beer, primarily the brand Staropramen, is distributed in the UK, mainly due to the entrance of the brewing group Bass (UK). Bass entered PP in 1994.
