Beer on troubled waters: Singapore brewer decides Cambodia's worth the risk
Article Abstract:
Singapore's Asia-Pacific Breweries is happy with its expansion into Cambodia and says fears of violence and governmental problems have not materialized. As the first large investor to come in after a new investment law was passed in Aug 1994, the company has taken full advantage of the benefits while pressing ahead with its investment. Some $20 million of the planned $36 million for a new brewery, capable of producing 1.7 billion litres annually, is in country. Finding skilled staff is the biggest problem.

Hidden costs: investors flock to Cambodia, but beware
Article Abstract:
Cambodia continues to lure investors with the promise of its nascent market and attractive laws, but delays and corruption play havoc with business schedules and expenses. Malaysia has placed the lion's share of the registered capital there, but even Thailand is regaining interest, and a flood of new projects could follow the US's expected grant of most-favored- nation trading status. Workers earn low wages in Cambodia but have poor efficiency levels, and politics and bribes are constant impediments.

Trail blazers
Article Abstract:
Taiwanese businessmen are braving Cambodia's volatile economy in order to be the first entities to benefit from the potential revenue offered by cheap resources. Cambodia is Southeast Asia's newest capital market that offers cheap land and labor. However, obstacles to attracting foreign investment, such as political instability and poor infrastructure, are factors that delay the influx of foreign investment into the country.
