Albania appears to have solid, double-digit economic growth due to income sent from Albanians working in other countries and a steady amount of foreign aid. Pres Sali Berisha's Democratic Party may not be reelected in May 1996 due to actions taken against rivals and allegations of corruption.

Albania's national elections will watched by foreign monitors, backed up by foreign troops, but hope for fair elections is still low. Violent revolt or violent retribution are expected depending on whether Pres Sali Berisha wins or loses against the Socialist opposition.
